Rebellious Desire 5

Despite outings with Andrew, the next week passed slowly for Xander. Angel had called several times during the week, and they’d talked for longer than Xander wanted to admit, even to himself. He felt a bit like a teenager with his first crush, on the phone for hours, hoping his father didn’t notice his goofy smiles and too frequent blushes.

Xander felt more comfortable with Angel after their conversations, but he was anxious about his date with Angel, and the night of the event was finally here. It was also the night of Spike’s club opening, so he and Angel were having dinner before going to the party.

His stylist had been by earlier to deliver the newest round of designer outfits for the evening. Apparently, this was the event of the year, or maybe just the week, and Xander wanted to make sure that if his picture made the paper again he would look the part and not embarrass his father.

However, jeans this tight didn’t a comfortable Xander make, even if they did cost hundreds of dollars a pair and fit him like a second skin. He was more a baggy cargos kind of guy and the binding material was a constant irritation that he couldn’t quite ignore.

The shirt was just as bad, in Xander’s opinion, although both Andrew and the stylist had gushed over him in it. It supposedly showed off his muscular chest and arms. Xander just felt like that judge on American Idol, wearing too tight shirts that never really looked right. All he needed was the snarky attitude and cool accent to make him an official clone.

Of course, he doubted that guy ever had to worry about being felt up. If he were a girl, he would say that his stylist had grabbed his boobies. But since he wasn’t a girl and didn’t really want to ever think the word boobies again, he settled for being felt up. There was definite gropeage, though, and the stylist had covered the action with a smoothing of material that didn’t fool Xander one little bit.

Now he just had to wait for Angel’s arrival and hope that he wasn’t dressed inappropriately for their date. What if Angel showed up in a suit and wanted to take him to some fancy restaurant? He was sure that jeans and a t-shirt, fancy and expensive as they were, wouldn’t be allowed in some swanky place.

Then again, Xander didn’t consider himself a swanky place kind of guy, and he hoped that Angel knew him well enough by now to know that. Xander took a deep cleansing breath and tried to clear his mind of the anxiety that was threatening to take over. He’d get through this night, his one promised date with Angel and the crazy club opening of Spike’s, and maybe, just maybe, he would have made enough appearances to appease his father.

Of course, it wouldn’t be enough for Andrew. His cousin was fitting right in and apparently loving every minute of the busy schedule they were keeping. Xander wasn’t sure anymore if it was just a cover to help Andrew find Graham, or if Andrew was really getting into it all.

Either way, Xander was making sure Andrew was safe. Gunn was with his cousin for the night and, although his bodyguard had protested vehemently, Xander had finally convinced him that being with Angel was enough protection. Gunn hadn’t agreed, but also hadn’t wanted to leave Andrew unprotected. In the end, Xander’s logic had prevailed, and Gunn and Andrew were already on their way to a pre-party party. Only in L.A. would there be parties for the parties.

In fact, his father was also at another pre-party bash, and he’d even taken a date. Xander had noticed his father talking to the woman at the Black and White ball and had asked about her over breakfast a few mornings back. After some blushing and stammering, Rupert admitted to spending time with Catherine Madison during one of his brief forays into society during his self imposed exile.

Even though Xander hadn’t gotten the best vibes from the woman, his father seemed to want his approval to ask her out again, so he’d been encouraging. Rupert had finally agreed and was now out with Catherine, her daughter Amy, and Amy’s fiancé, Warren. Xander couldn’t help but smile when he remembered how his father had been steamrolled into the date. All Rupert had to do was call, and Catherine had taken it from there. Xander had been invited to join them as well, but his date with Angel had saved him from being there on his father’s first date in years. There were some things he just wasn’t quite ready for yet and participating in his father’s dates was one of them.

Now his mind was back on dates again and thinking of dates made him think of Angel, and Xander’s anxiety returned in full force. Deciding his deep-cleansing breaths just weren’t cutting it, Xander made his way into his father’s study, hoping to sneak a drink of imported whiskey. Not that he really needed to sneak, but he knew that the drink would probably go straight to his head as he tended to avoid alcohol most of the time.

Before he could give into the urge, the doorbell rang, and Xander heard the butler making his way to the entry. Moments later, there was a quiet knock on the study door, and then the door opened. Angel was here.

Xander tried to settle the immediate fluttering in his stomach when he looked at Angel. There was a little fear, a little nervousness, and more lust than Xander cared to acknowledge in that first glance. Xander wished more than ever that he’d taken the plunge and grabbed a whiskey. This was going to be a long night.

At least he seemed to be dressed appropriately. Angel was wearing a similar outfit, although his leather pants didn’t seem to be painted on, and his shirt was snug without inspiring boobie gropeage. And damn, he’d thought that word again. Between boobie thoughts and wondering just how fast he could get those leather pants off Angel, Xander was feeling the distinct need to scrub his brain with bleach.

The threat of bleach seemed to subdue his traitorous thoughts for the moment, and Xander was finally able to look Angel in the eye and smile his greeting. Angel stepped toward him, hesitating only slightly before pressing a quick kiss to Xander’s cheek. “You look great.”

Xander felt his smile widen and resisted the urge to tug at his shirt. “Thanks. You do, too. But leather in L.A.? You’re a brave man.”

Angel chuckled. “I wouldn’t say brave. They’ll probably stick to me, but I wanted to look good.” There was a definite double meaning there. Hell, there was probably only one meaning. Trying to get Angel’s pants off was definitely the first thing that had come to Xander’s mind. And little Xander was finding the idea interesting as well, which wasn’t particularly comfortable in jeans this tight.

Xander gave a little shift, trying to be subtle, but Angel’s eyes were immediately drawn down to Xander’s crotch, and Xander watched the heat bloom in his eyes. Which, of course, made little Xander even happier. Which, of course, Angel noticed. It was going to be a long night.

After a long moment of stares, they both got themselves under control long enough to meet eyes again. Xander couldn’t help his bashful half-grin, and Angel smiled broadly in return. Oh hell, they were acting like nervous teenagers.

Angel gathered himself together again and reached into the pocket of his leather pants. Xander’s eyes followed every movement, and he practically drooled. Pants like that should be illegal. Angel pulled out a folded piece of paper and held it out to Xander, and Xander was pleased that his hand only shook slightly as he reached to accept it.

Tearing his eyes away from Angel, Xander unfolded the paper and read its contents. His eyes flew back to Angel’s again. “You found him.”

“That was the deal, wasn’t it?”

“Yes. Yes, it was. Thanks, Angel.”

“Well, don’t thank me yet. There’s something you should know.” Angel gestured for Xander to sit, and even though he wasn’t sure he wanted to, Xander settled on the leather couch and Angel sat next to him.

“What’s going on?” Xander was more nervous now, picking up on the seriousness of Angel’s tone.

“Graham Miller was hurt in a car accident several months ago. He was in a rehabilitation center here in the city until last week. Now he’s holed up at his house and continuing his therapy. Xander, it’s not good. He was hurt pretty badly and has cut himself off from everyone. According to my sources, he’s not allowing anyone outside of his caregivers to see him.”

Xander felt his stomach clench again. In one way, he was relieved. Graham did have a legitimate reason for disappearing the way he had. On the other, he was worried about Andrew’s reaction. How would his cousin handle the knowledge that the love of his life was terribly hurt?

“Thanks, Angel. I’ll think about this before I decide what to do. Now, don’t we have a dinner to get to?” Xander tucked the paper into his front pocket and grimaced. Even the additional millimeters made these jeans more uncomfortable. He supposed it was the price he paid for trying to look his part.

Angel stood and held out his hand to Xander, and they made their way outside. Xander was still lost in his thoughts, but tried to force them aside until he could have time to seriously think things through. It ended up being easier than he thought once he got a look at Angel’s car. “Is this a Viper?”

Angel smiled with obvious pride. “Yep. She’s my baby. She can do 0 to 60 in four seconds.”

“Can I drive?”

Angel’s eyes widened in panic for a moment before he caught the teasing gleam in Xander’s. “Hell no.”

Xander laughed and let Angel open the passenger door for him. Now this was a sports car. They both settled in, and with only a little showing off, Angel drove them through town to the restaurant Angel had chosen.  Xander tried not to laugh when Angel growled at the valet before handing over his keys. The young man practically trembled with fear as he drove the car away.

It wasn’t one of the stuffier places, Xander was pleased to note, but it was still obviously high class and not the kind of place Xander normally frequented. Xander hoped the menu was in English, as he was pretty sure he wouldn’t be able to handle any sort of translating with his brain still flying a hundred miles an hour.

They were shown to their table immediately, and Xander noticed that they were given a more private position in the restaurant. He also noticed that Angel was very much in guard mode as his eyes scanned the interior, noting exits and potential threats. Xander let Angel do his thing while he started his own scan of the menu. Fortunately, it was in English.

Xander eyed the selections carefully, keeping in mind the snugness of his pants when ordering. Light and refreshing appeared to be his best bet, and Xander scanned for something that didn’t include garlic or onions. Just to be on the safe side, of course.

Angel offered to order wine, but Xander wasn’t really interested. He didn’t think Angel really wanted any either. Besides, he’d promised Gunn that he wouldn’t drink tonight since he didn’t have his bodyguard at his side. Angel smiled his approval, and the waiter slipped silently away.

Only a few awkward pauses followed, and soon they were chatting and eating. At Xander’s request, Angel described both of his businesses in more detail, and Xander was fascinated by the security firm. Xander described his impressions of L.A. so far, and Angel chuckled at Xander’s description of several of the events he’d attended in the past week. Xander was relieved that most of the nervous tension he’d been carrying around about this night faded away as their dinner progressed. Angel may have been a boor the other night, but he was being charming and funny. He was still drop dead sexy, but he wasn’t pushing it.

By the time they finished dinner, Xander was uncomfortably full—he hadn’t been able to resist the Death by Chocolate dessert and his jeans were nearly cutting off his circulation—and he was growing more and more comfortable with Angel. Maybe he was right to give Angel another chance, after all.

So Graham was hurt. How will Xander handle this with Andrew. I hope Xabder hasn't misjudged Angel. And Angel not doing anthing to hurt Xander. If that happens there will probably be several people to rake him over the coals. Mainly Spike. I like Spike in this,

So Graham was gravely injured. I just wonder how Andrew is going to take this.

And yay for the date! At least they are getting along well. Let's see if one of them sticks their foot in mouth before the night ends (hey, it's entirely probable!)

Aww, poor Graham. What he needs is a perky blond to help with his recovery. =]

I'm with the others that those two sound yummy in those outfits. =] Now to see if Angel can keep his asshole tendencies on a leash at the party.
