An Update on Me and Some Random Fandom Questions

Well, cause I can't seem to write anything else at the moment (the muse must be on vacation in Fiji or something cause she sure as heck isn't working with me at all), I thought I'd just ramble on a bit and have a little convo with the flist.  Fun, right?

So, first off, for you McDonalds fans...I tried the new Southern Style Chicken sandwich tonight for dinner.  They should have just said "The exactly like Chick-Fil-A Sandwich" and called it done.  But if you like Chick-Fil-A, which I do, then you'll like it.  I rarely eat out cause really...expensive much?..but really wanted some French Fries for some reason.  *shrugs*  

Also realized recently that I know *nothing* about politics.  It's disappointing really.  But how the heck to you decide what party you are or who to vote for?  I have no idea.  Honestly.  Am embarrassed to admit it to tell you the truth.  The democratic primary is coming to Indiana next and we've been getting slammed with ads and such on the candidates.  It's very confusing.  But I guess the only way to learn is by doing so that's what I've decided to do.  Will just have to give it a go and see what I think about it I suppose.  

Um...how weird is it that I just mentioned McDonalds and politics next to each other?  I'm so weird.

Anyhoo, so with the muse on vacation and all, you'd think I have lots more time on my hands.  Alas, no.  I've been babysitting the niece and nephews for the past week while my brother is in Wisconsin training for his new job.   I'm reading a bit (loving "Subspace" by toobusy2write) but mainly just dinking around.   Add to that the fact that I've had a really crappy time of it lately (my mother has suggested that I'm cursed and I'm beginning to agree...but I won't curse myself further with one of those what else could possibly questions cause if I've learned anything from watching Buffy, it's not to say that!  Oh, and not to make wishes!  And not to invite strangers inside cause they might be vampires.  *snicker*

And since I'm rambling, I have a few fandom type questions I'd like to pose to the flist.  

First, what's the deal with the Five things fics?  I see them all over the place.  Is there a reason why so many people write them?  Not that I'm opposed or anything.  I've read several and they're fabulous.  But just wondering the why-fors about them.  Clue me in, would ya?

Second, just a random weirdness type question...  Do you guys have a certain person that you secretly (or not so secretly?) hope comments on your posts?  I must confess that I do.  No names or anything, but when this one person comments, it makes my day.  And I'm still hoping to get a comment from this other person who probably doesn't even know that I exist.  Weird right?  Is it just me?  

Third, just for curiousities sake, do you only read fic with pairings that you love or do you give them all a try?  I'm a read everything gal.  I find that these days I especially enjoy reading rare pairings cause there's a been there, read that feel to so many things.  Not to say that I don't read those still as well, but I see a rare pairing and I jump on it.   Course, that's probably why purps and I started rogue_slashercause we both wanted to see "the other guys".  

I'd also like to know who your favorite character from BtVS/AtS is and why.  I can honestly say that I don't have an absolute favorite.  No really!  I don't!!   Some of you might think it's Oz or Xander, but it's just that I like writing them more.  Heck, I am Xander (notice the babbling that is this post and you'll have to agree) and I'd like to be Oz.  He was just so *cool*.  I am not now, nor have I ever been, cool.  I mean, my nephews think I'm cool but they're 8 and 5 and I spoil them rotten so...

Let's see...what else?  I know!  What would you like to see me write that I haven't already?  I want *someone* out there to write more stuff with Oz and Riley.  I love reading fics with those two.  Not necessarily as a pairing, although I soooo wouldn't be opposed to that, but just more fics that feature them.

Okay.  Shutting up now.  Would love to hear what you think...

Actually, considering the pre-packaged and insubstantial nature of most candidates, I think politics and McDonald's have more in common than yuou'd like to think.


Okay, now for the important stuff (tee hee), the answers to your fandom questions:

1) I have no idea how the Five Things idea got started. I have written a couple of them, yet I still have no clue why.

2) Yes, but at the same time, I cherish each and every comment no matter who it's from. I love all feedback and it all makes my day.

3) I tend to stick to a few pairings that I enjoy, but I will read fic by certain authors no matter what pairing they write and I will often be adventurous when reading drabbles.

4) I like Willow and Angel best with Spike a close second.

5) I don't know what I would ask you to write...

I think you have a point on the McDonalds/politics thing. Never thought about it that way. Maybe I'm not so weird after all.

1-you know, I wonder if anyone knows how those things got started. it's very clever though. i haven't written one myself yet but it is tempting.

2-so glad it's not just me. I'm with you on the comments. I think sometimes people don't know how much a "great job" or "squee!" or "thud" means! I don't expect long drawn out responses (although I love those too!) It's just nice to know it's enjoyed).

3-I'm adventurous with one-shots. *blushes* I normally skip drabbles cause I always want more! :D

4-How did I know Willow and Angel? Why do you think you like them best?

5-That's just cause I've already written stuff for you. LOL

"Subspace" is amazing. I love that fic!

1. Five things fiction? No idea why people write them. I think I did it once.

2. There are certain people that I do like having comment on my fics but I love every comment I get. It makes me feel special.

3. I am willing to branch out and read different things if it strikes my curiosity. There are authors that write things that I will read no matter what it is though.

4. Favorite characters...I'd have to say Willow and Fred though I love Spike, Angelus, and Oz.

5. I'd love to you see write more Oz/Lindsey :)

3-You know, you and Gabby both said the same thing. I've not thought about it like that but I suppose I'm that way too to some extent. My reading time is so limited that I have to be careful though and I tend to wait till fic is complete cause I miss updates. But yeah, certain authors I watch for.

4-I like Willow and Fred too. Love your guys. Especially Oz. :D

5-I'm working on an Oz/Lindsey for you. Even has a title. "Sardonic". Hee! I'll get it done when the muse gets back from Fiji.

OKies, i have nooooooo idea what the five fic thing is. Lol! And yeah theres about 3 or 4 folks that make me do a whooop if they comment on my art stuff. :P Some cause i really admire their own work, and some cause their comments are always so wuverly lol. But o course that dunna mean i dont lover all my other comments :D

And yeah i tent to check the pairing and *cough* warnings before reading a fic. <.< >.> So im a perv! lol! If i see.... 'interesting' warnings and a spike pairing, ill likely give it a whirl :P

I LOVES spike, though that dont take alot to figure out, ive done like 1 manip without spike in it lol! And heee id love to see a spike/oz hurt/comfort, buuuuuuut thats just me, write what you wants to hun :)

I'm with you on the comments. When someone whose work I really admire comments on mine it makes my heart happy. But I too love all comments. Cause really, I'm a comment whore. Need em. Crave em. :D

I check the warnings too but generally just cause I have a couple things that I don't like to read. Mostly though, I'll give anything a try depending on my mood. LOL at "interesting" warnings. I get ya. Sometimes I look for "interesting" ones as well. Us pervs gotta stick together.

It's funny that you mentioned politics because I was talking with a friend from the US yesterday and she was telling me about the candidates. And it was very interesting. From what I understood, and please correct me if I'm wrong, there are several candidates for both parties and first you vote to choose a candidate to represent each party and in January there's a second round of elections between the 2 different parties. Did I get that right, is that how it works?
I've read a few things about Mckain, Obama and Hillary. They are the most popular, correct?

The system is very different in Greece and in all honesty I don't see a big difference between the parties and the candidates, but that's another story. What I usually do is read their programs and try decide which appeals more to me. Now, I don't necessarily believe that they'll do what they promise but I can always hope...

I can't believe I'm discussing politics.... but... it's the first time that you have a woman candidate right? And is Obama the first African American candidate? I think that Hillary has a good chance. And I'll stop now before I embarrass my self more. :)

Now, the interesting stuff. 1)Strangely I haven't read any Five Things fics... 2)The short answer is yes. When I really admire someone's work and they actually pay attention to sth I've done I'm just awed. But all comments are very very very appreciated and just make so happy! 3) I have favorites but I do read different things. I usually stay away from spuffy though. 4) It's honestly very hard to choose. I love Dru and Fred the most, but I also like Angel and Spike very much. And so many others. 5) Mmmm I know! Fred/Cordy femmeslah :P *wink*

LOL. Politics does tend to be confusing. But you're right in what you said on the candidates. It should be a wild election.

No five things fics? I'll have to find you one to read. :D

I'm so glad I'm not the only one on the comments thing. Was feeling a bit neurotic about that.

I rarely read Spuffy. There are a couple good ones out there that I've read, mostly when they win a ton of awards and I want to see what all the fuss is about. :D

Yes, I do have a very few persons whose comments I crave, and when they don't... well, I don't feel well. Even if I'm fighting the feeling :)

If I had more time, I'd read more pairings. But time is scarce, especially now, and it's so frustrating that I tend to focus on Spike/Angel (of course). Some pairings I will rarely read, mostly those including Buffy -and well, het in general ;)

Favourite character? I'm going to surprise you... Spike ;)

I would love to see you write about Randy Giles -I'm sure you could do something fantastic with him :)

In re politics: there may be no one you particularly want to vote FOR, but surely there are several you want to vote AGAINST! When all is said and done, they are all politicians, reform and machine alike. When the dust settles it will be business as usual in DC. They blame whomever is President for everything but forget to mention that the Congress is ultimately responsible for going to War (or other conflicts) as the President can't just declare it without their permission. Also, anyone who really tries to do "what's best for the most people" won't get reelected.

I particularly like Angel and almost anyone - fanfic authors have developed and defined the character much more than Joss et al ever had time/money/agreement from censors to. I will read other pairings if I have time or I am particularly fond of the author's work in general - for instance, I will read anything that you write.

My current daydream includes Angel/Willow, Spike/Faith, Xander/Dawn and Oz/OFC. It starts with Faith and Willow rescuing A & S just before the sunrise in NFA, the demons defeated just barely and our boys at death's door, Spike held in Angel's arms. It also gets Angel and Co. out from under the PTB's auspices and under the more benevolent arms of the Goddess who wants them to work for her. The 4 pairings eventually become the NEW Order/Line/House/whatever of Aurelius. Should this in anyway inspire you to write something related, go for it as I wouldn't mind reading it instead of dreaming it.

Actually, in my daydream, there is some het but quite a bit of slash as well since Spike needs to be reclaimed as Angel's childe and Xander gets half killed by an enraged Buffy who discovers that Willow and Faith have come to Angel's aid (he and Dawn tagged along on the trip to LA where Buffy wants to "show Angel just who was boss") and in order to save him Angel had to turn him as another childe and we ALL KNOW that claimings come with blood and sex. Naturally, there is quite a bit or orgyistic behaviour when Willow becomes Angel's mate and consort, Spike and Faith become mates and Xander and Dawn become mates so Angel has to "welcome" them properly into the family as well. And then there is Oz and the OFC werewolf that the Goddess told them to expect who have to be claimed and brought into the family. Lots of fun sex. Think Beltane rituals as the Goddess has decided that Angel should be her eternal "Man in Black" (who is the conduit for the Horned God) and Willow her eternal "Maiden." The others fulfill the other positions for a complete circle - Spike and Faith are the conduits of the gods of day and night, Xan and Dawn the dark mother and father of man and Oz and OFC the god of beasts and the goddess of the fields. They leave LA just before Buffy arrives at the Hyperion thinking to get her people back and stake Angel and Spike. I know its long and involved, but I have been working on this daydream for a couple of months now. Should you ever, I would be intrigued to see how a good author would treat the plot.

Sorry about that, I tend to be detail oriented when I am ignoring the world and living large inside. Slowly but surely, I am doing in Buffy in this daydream (she captures and tortures Angel). Notre Dame is a lovely campus and Mags has found a great apartment so my work is done and I hope to be home tomorrow. Can't wait to read what you may have written (if you haven't had time, that's okay, I am just an anxious, greedy reader.

Hi there. *waves* I just came over to see who you are, since you commented on my story. In the interest of avoiding all the things that I SHOULD be doing ATM, I thought I'd answer your questions. Of course, since you don't know me, you may not give a rap for my opinions; but, what the hell, it helps me avoid actual, you know, work.
1 - Five things fics - I dunno, it's a short, easy way to be funny? Never been tempted myself, but I have read some good ones.

2 - I don't have any one certain person who I crave attention from - but I do have some people who can make my day if they comment at all. I jump around going, "So and so read my story! So and so read my story!" LOL

3 - I don't read only fics with my OTP, but I'm very cautious about what I read outside of my comfy little corner. I'm not really into the whole "pairings" idea as a rational for fic, so I'd take a well-written general story over a specific pairing most of the time.

4 - favorite character? Spike. Next fav would be Buffy - it was her show, after all. LOL I don't go looking for fics about other characters unless my guys are going to be involved.

Firstly; Subspace is amazing, and I'm incredibly sad that Kat's finished it already :( I think I was one of the lucky ones as 15 chapters were already posted when I started to read it.

Secondly; I don't know about the 'Five Thing Fics' I'd love to know about them too.

Thirdly; I love anyone from NS, or that I've friended online to comment to my posts. It makes me feel special that they take the time to read my posts and the like.

Fourth; I read everything. I love certain ships, but on comms I'll read everything because feedback is love. I love it, so I read it and comment everything I read/look at.

Fifth; Uh... God. Um. I love Fred/Illyria. Fred is like sex-on-legs and Illyria is so bluntly funny she reminds me of Anya a little. I also love Angel in all his broodyness, and Angelus is so evilly sadistic is so hot. I LOVE Spike, and Lindsey is hot too. And Willow. Gotta love Willow. And Oz cuase he's way cool. Doyle, becuase he's amazing. And Xander because he's the friend that can make everything better.
