Well insomnia has struck *again* and I have had entirely too much time to spend pondering random silliness. Last nights ponderance? I was curious about distinctions amongst fanfic writers in the BTVS/AtS fandom.
You know, some of 'em are nearly famous or something. I have no clue who they are. But I hear that there's a bunch of 'em. They even have different nicknames for them. Course, my sleep deprivation has rendered it impossible for me to remember the nicknames. But you know who I mean, the ones that nearly everyone has heard of. (Except me...cause I'm oblivious to these things...which is why I'm asking.)
So, my question to you, dear flist, is two fold.
One, Who are the "famous" fanfic writers?
And two, Which stories are on the must read list for any BTVS/AtS fanfic reader? This can be for any pairing, slash or het. I'm just curious as to which stories are considered "the best of the best". Give me your top three all-time favorite fics (or more if you have more than three!!)
So come on, help an insomniac out. I'll need something to read tonight at 3am I'm sure.
*toddles off to ponder something equally silly*

Nothing the same
Book one (complete): http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=orchidluv&keyword=Nothing+the+Same&filter=all
It starts I believe in Season 2. Spike looses Dru and ends up in Sunnydale and meets a young Xander. Of course Spike is not chipped. Through some great encounters they form a friendship and then a relationship. It is not only about Spike and Xanders relationship but also the events and battles that Buffy had to fight at that time. It shows how events change each person, and how they react and grow because of those situations. Xander dealing with loving a vampire (un chipped), and all that that means. Spike loving a human, and how he needs to change to accommodate that. It also has how the Scoobies (and others) react and change as a result of that relationship. Don't expect Spike to become all fuzzy. he is still Spike after all.
Book two (WIP): http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=orchidluv&keyword=NTS+Book+2&filter=all
Book two picks up where book one ends (Season 3). It continues with the events that happened during that season, and how they are handled. Spike and Xander continue to grow and change as their relationship takes on deeper meaning, and how the people and world around them changes with the events that they deal with. Willow is a huge focus in book two. How Xander's relationship effects her, and her growing obsession with magic effects what she does. It is still a WIP but there is a lot written so far, and the author assures me it will continue for a long time to come. Possibly extending to another book.
The characters are rich and deep, there is nothing 2 dimensional about any of them. Both the good and bad is laid out for the reader to see. Very real emotions, both good and bad. Again don't expect Spike to become fuzzy and "human" he is still a Master Vampire to the core. The writing style is suburb and leaves the reader lacking for nothing. This is a MUST read for anyone that loves Spander, and BVtS in general.
For my rec's besides NTS. There is 'Finding Home' by Velvet Crypt: http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/firebird_ascending/fics/SpikeXanderFic/findinghomep1.html/
This has a chipped Spike getting seriously hurt and ending up at Xanders. Xander's mother lets him in, and they patch him up. Xander comes to grips with his love for Spike as well as to his and his mothers abusive relationship with his father. Spike comes to view Xanders Mother as his Mom, and the story takes off from there. It has wonderful humor, angst, growing feelings, and lots of great stuff happening. Its completed 10 chapters and a must read.
I'll give you one more: Its a Crossover with Spiderman, and probably not all that well known, but its a very fun read. Its called 'Dimensionally Challenged' by Amy: http://nummytreats.forsaken-faith.org/archive/viewstory.php?sid=115
Peter Parker gets accidentally pulled into Sunnydale by a spell gone wrong performed by Willow and Giles looking for a specific champion. It takes place after Spiderman 3. Not sure the time reference in BVtS. Its a 3Way relationship Spike/Xander/Peter.
