Angel made sure the pets were secure and Spike was resting comfortably before he left the room. He needed to get more supplies if they were planning on keeping their pets around for a while. And he planned on keeping them for a long while.
He glanced around the hotel lobby, making sure his human employees were not inside. It was going to be a challenge keeping this from them but he was sure he could come up with something, even if it meant keeping the pets gagged part of the time.
Angel recalled the sight of Riley with his mouth stretched wide around a gag and felt his cock stir in response. He had to admit that this was one of his better ideas.
Although his soul was causing his conscience to twinge a bit, he felt sure that with some training he would have the pets begging to stay. Then he wouldn’t have to feel guilty at all. Angel grinned smugly at the thought of Graham begging. Yes, this idea definitely had its benefits.
He left the hotel quietly and headed for a shop he knew well. He hadn’t had cause to be a customer in recent years and was sure there were some new gadgets he wouldn’t be able to live without.
When he arrived at the shop, he immediately started grabbing items and soon his arms were full. He dumped the first load onto the counter and watched the clerks eyes light up. Then he returned to shopping and filled his arms again.
The clerks eyes bugged out when the total came up but Angel didn’t flinch and laid a pile of cash on the counter. Then he gathered up his purchases and made his way back to the hotel.
He heard the voices before he entered and stepped back to put his bags into the trunk of his car. No need to arouse their suspicions by carrying in so many items. Once the bags were secure, he entered the hotel and approached his human friends.
Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn were all gathered around the office and he approached them with his usual expression free face. They looked up with choruses of “Hey, Angel” and he greeted them in return.
Noticing his bleaker than normal countenance, Wesley asked if all was well.
Angel let out a sigh, hoping he wasn’t laying it on too thick before speaking. “We have a visitor.” All of the humans looked at him wide-eyed. “It’s Spike.”
They were all familiar with his errant childe, especially after the incident with the ring of Amara. Angel nearly sighed again, remembering. He had trained his childe well and the Mozart was a nice touch.
He listened to their exclamations and protests before quietly continuing. “He’s hurt and I can’t turn him away like that. I know this is hard for you to understand, but I have to help him.”
Angel made sure his face showed lots of guilt. He knew that they thought his guilt was his biggest weakness. It wasn’t, but it was a card he played now with expertise.
“I think it would be best if you all avoided the hotel for a while.” He continued over their protests. “I know that you guys don’t understand, but I feel a responsibility to Spike and…”
He broke off again as his childe started down the stairs. Angel tried not to smirk as Spike put on his most pitiful face and limped down the stairs.
“Sire, I’ll go. I don’t want to cause you more trouble.” Angel fought to withhold his grin and thought ‘well played, childe’ before he answered.
“I’ve already told you, Spike. You aren’t leaving in this condition. I haven’t told them about the chip yet. I think it might make a difference.” Angel watched the spark of understanding come into Spike’s eyes. Angel knew the chip was out, but no one else did.
“Sire, please. If you tell them, then they’ll…”
“No, Spike. They need to understand that you can’t hurt humans anymore. That you’re helpless.” Angel watched the flare of heat enter Spike’s eyes and knew their pets were in for it at his reminder.
Wesley finally spoke. “Angel, what chip?”
Angel turned to his friends. “There is a military group called the Initiative in Sunnydale. They are experimenting on demons, even harmless ones, and making it so that they can’t defend themselves. They do brain surgery and implant a chip that basically electrocutes them if they try to harm someone.”
Cordelia looked impressed. Gunn looked intrigued. Wesley looked disgusted. Fortunately for Spike, Wesley spoke first. “That’s ridiculous. Didn’t they research? Don’t they know anything about demons? What are they thinking getting involved in this type of thing?”
Angel agreed with Wesley’s reaction and nodded his approval. “They don’t know what they’re messing around with. Things could go very badly, in fact, they already are. From what Spike tells me, some of the demons they are holding captive are very powerful. I’d like for you guys to do some research on this and see what you can find out.”
They all agreed and Angel knew Wesley would explain to the other two humans why this was so important. Spike chose that moment to let out a whimper and stumble forward. Angel moved to his side.
He picked his childe up in his arms and felt Spike smirk into his neck. “I think it would be best if you weren’t at the hotel for a while. I don’t know if this chip can be tracked but if it can, you don’t need to be here if they come. After seeing what they did to Spike, I don’t know what they would do to humans.”
Wesley quickly agreed and they hurried to gather their things and leave. Angel started up the stairs, still carrying Spike in his arms. When they heard the outer doors shut, Spike let out a bark of laughter. “Good one, Sire. That ought to keep ‘em busy for a while.”
“Well, childe, it wasn’t all in jest. If they can find out something useful, I would be only too happy to go back and destroy the place. But for now, let’s go check on our pretties.” Angel gently placed Spike on his feet before turning back to the stairs.
“I almost forgot. I got you some more presents.”
Spike’s face lit up. “I love pressies!!” Angel just laughed and continued down the stairs.
When he returned, he carried the packages into the room next door to his. No need to let their pets see all the fun things he bought until it was time to use them. He left Spike happily tearing open boxes and bags.
Their pets were both awake and looked at him suspiciously when he entered the room. “Well, pets, are you ready for your next lesson?” Graham frowned at him and refused to answer. It was enough to set Angel off.
