Rebellious Desire 6
Spike’s club was packed, and Xander held tightly to Angel’s arm as they pushed through the crowd. Spike had given them passes to the VIP section upstairs, and Angel was leading them up there. Andrew was already there, surrounded by his new entourage, and Xander couldn’t help but smile at his cousin’s new-found popularity.
Remembering the address he had in his pocket, Xander’s smile dimmed slightly. He still had no idea what to do about Graham, but his thoughts drifted back to what Angel had said several times. If Graham was cutting himself off from the world, how would he react to Andrew? Xander wondered if he should just keep the information to himself and not let his cousin risk further heart break.
Angel spotted Xander’s father and led them through the slightly less crowded VIP section to get to him. Xander noted that his father looked decidedly uncomfortable in this setting. Hell, the music was so loud Xander thought his head was going to implode. He couldn’t imagine what it must be like for his father.
Rupert’s date, however, looked very pleased to be here. Catherine Madison still gave Xander a bad feeling, even more so once he’d met her daughter, Amy, and Amy’s fiancé Warren. Xander had finally figured out why he felt so uncomfortable with them. After a few days, he got the impression that they weren’t pleased that he was now in the picture. In fact, they seemed to try to exclude Xander from their conversations as often as possible. It didn’t really bother him, especially since most of their conversations involved fashion and society, but Xander wanted to get along with them for his father’s benefit.
Rupert seemed enamored of Catherine, so Xander kept his misgivings to himself and did his best to participate in their discussions when he could. Usually Amy and Warren treated Xander like he was from a different planet, but they were very nice to him when his father was paying attention. The entire situation was annoying, especially since Xander was trying so hard to impress his father and his father’s friends. If they just didn’t like him, that was fine, but if they were trying to turn his father against him, that was another story altogether. All he could do was keep an eye on them. If they tried to pull anything, Xander would make sure to stop it before his father got hurt.
Xander was pulled from his musings by the feel of Angel’s warm breath on his ear. “Would you like a drink?” Angel’s voice sent a shiver down Xander’s spine, and he nodded, grateful he was capable of that action as his brain seemed to have relocated south of his waist.
Watching Angel walk away sent another delightful shiver through Xander. There was nothing quite like a man who could powerfully cut his way through a crowd. Angel was very difficult to resist, and Xander quickly found an empty seat before Angel’s affect on him became obvious to everyone. By the time Angel returned, drinks in hand, Xander had managed to get himself under control. Barely.
Angel slipped into the empty seat next to him, and their thighs brushed. Angel handed him a drink, and their fingertips brushed. Xander leaned back in his seat, and their arms brushed. Xander found himself longing for a nice cold shower where there would be no brushing at all. Hell, there would be brushing, but it would be only his own hand doing the work. He still wasn’t ready to go further with Angel after their last experience, as much as his body told him otherwise.
A slow song started, and Angel grabbed Xander’s hand and stood, raising an eyebrow in question. Xander nodded and stood as well, letting Angel lead him onto the crowded dance floor. Angel’s arms came around his waist, and Xander raised his hands to Angel’s shoulders. They fit together from chest to hip, their legs slightly spread, each one with one leg between the other’s. Xander felt Angel’s muscled thigh between his legs and forced himself not to grind against it. It was so tempting, though, just to lose himself in the sensation of Angel’s body next to his.
Xander raised his head, his eyes glazed with desire, only to see a matching heat in Angel’s. His reactions to Angel were so instantaneous, so powerful, that Xander wondered if he would be able to continue being cautious. He’d never wanted so desperately just to throw caution to the wind and give in to his rebellious desires.
Just when he thought he was going to spontaneously combust, Xander felt a tap on his shoulder and looked around to see Spike smiling widely at him. “You made it, luv!” Spike pulled Xander into a quick hug and sent Angel a quick glare. “So, you’ve forgiven the arsehole, here?”
Xander smiled back. “Yeah, I’ve forgiven him. We’ll see how it goes.” Xander winked at Angel, who was glaring at the both of them.
“Excuse us, Angel. Want to show your boy around a bit. We’ll catch up to you shortly.”
Before either Angel or Xander could protest, Spike was pulling Xander through the crowd and introducing him to the people they passed. It was all a blur for Xander, so he just nodded and smiled and tried to keep up with the whirlwind that was Spike.
They made a complete round of the club, Spike chatting and waving to everyone he knew while showing off some of his favorite features of the club. By the time they made it back upstairs Xander was completely turned around. The lights and music were starting to get to him and he wanted nothing more than to go find Angel and his father and just sit for a while.
Spike seemed to realize that Xander was overwhelmed and led him to one of the few quiet places. A security guard stood near the entry, and Spike nodded to him before stepping through. It was a small area, still open to the rest of the club with a balcony that overlooked the dance floor, but it was closed off and they were the only ones in the room.
Xander sighed with relief at not being surrounded by people, and he and Spike settled into the booth and watched the partygoers below. “So, luv, just wanted to make sure you were okay. Angel told me what happened. He’s such an arse sometimes, but he does have a good heart. He just forgets that it’s not below his belt occasionally.”
“Things are good. I’m just taking things slowly, and we’ll see what happens.”
“Sounds like a plan.” Spike’s eyes widened slightly as he caught sight of someone on the dance floor. “Hey, didn’t know your uncle was coming.”
“My uncle?” Xander looked in the direction Spike was, but didn’t see Wesley anywhere.
“Yeah, luv. Right there. He’s such a prat. And don’t even get me started on that bint Eve he keeps time with. She’s a real piece of work.”
Suddenly, Xander realized that it wasn’t Wesley that Spike was referring to. It was his other uncle, Lindsey, the one who had avoided meeting him for as long as Xander had been in town. As if he could feel Xander’s stare, Lindsey looked up, and their eyes met. Lindsey looked away quickly and whispered in the ear of the woman at his side.
Her eyes lifted and met his as well. She turned up her nose and looked disgusted with him. Lindsey and Eve snickered together and spoke to the few other people around them, who also raised their eyes to Xander and laughed. Xander couldn’t believe how incredibly awkward and self conscious he was feeling.
“Ignore them, luv. Just jealous of you. You don’t see them getting a personal tour by the owner, do ya?” Before Spike could continue, the security guard stuck his head in the room.
“Excuse me, Spike. The manager says you’re needed up front. Some sort of problem.”
Spike grumbled under his breath but stood anyway. “Can you find your way back, luv? Don’t want to make you wait on me. There’s no tellin’ how long this will take.”
Xander smiled. “Yeah, I’m fine. Can you point me in the direction of the restroom before you go?”
Spike gave him directions to the nearest facilities and followed the guard through the crowd toward the front of the club. Xander followed Spike’s directions and was surprised to see that he’d been sent back toward the offices. There was a restroom there, thankfully deserted, and Xander stepped to the sink and quickly splashed cold water on his face.
He took a few minutes to get his emotions in check, still hurt from Lindsey’s reaction to him, then headed back out of the restroom. By the time he reached the sanctuary where he and Spike had separated, the area was deserted. Something was clearly going on at the front of the club, and by the amount of flashes going off, Xander could only assume that it was someone very famous arriving for the party.
Deciding it was best to head down to the lower level and across the dance floor to meet back up with Angel in the VIP section, Xander started down the stairs. He didn’t hear anyone behind him, but he felt the hands shoving at his back moments before he started falling.
Xander’s hands scrambled for something to grab hold of, and he was able to snag the railing. He was moving too quickly though, and his arm was nearly jerked out of socket as he continued stumbling forward. In the end, he couldn’t move well enough in the damn tight jeans to get his balance, and just went with the forward momentum, hoping nothing was severely damaged by the time he reached the bottom.
When his body finally stopped moving, Xander took a deep breath and tried to determine if he was injured. His arm was throbbing, and he’d apparently bitten his lip. Xander brushed his hand across his mouth, and his fingers came away wet. His legs were okay, one ankle was throbbing, and his back and ass were sore from the way he landed at the bottom of the steps.
All in all, Xander considered himself lucky. He sat for a moment and tried to catch his breath, wondering who the hell would have tried to hurt him. Before he could come up with any viable suspects, he saw booted feet stop near his and raised his eyes up leather covered legs to meet Angel’s scowling face.
Angel saw Xander sitting on the bottom step with his hand on his mouth. His lips looked a bit swollen, like he had been well and thoroughly kissed. Angel immediately saw red.
“What the hell were you doing up there?”
Xander frowned. “What?”
“I saw Spike leave ten minutes ago. Who the hell were you up there with, and what exactly were you doing?”
“Angel, I don’t know…”
“You know what, never mind. I don’t want to know. Come on, your father’s worried about you.” Angel grabbed Xander’s hand and pulled him to his feet, and Xander winced as his sore arm was stretched. Angel noticed his reaction and stopped. Xander’s hand came up and self consciously wiped at the blood on his lip.
“What the hell happened?” Angel sounded outraged, and Xander wasn’t quite sure what to say. His brain didn’t seem to want to function, and he wondered if maybe he’d hit his head on the way down.
“I, uh, slipped. On the stairs.”
“Are you okay?” Angel went from pissed to concerned in a matter of seconds, and Xander sighed.
“I’m fine. But I’d really just like to go home now.”
“Oh, sure. Of course.”
Angel led them to the front of the club and toward the valet. He stopped at the entrance and left a message for Rupert, telling him that he and Xander were going to head back early. By the time the Viper pulled around, Xander was shaking, and Angel guided him to the car carefully.
They didn’t speak on the ride back, but Xander could feel Angel looking over at him every few minutes. Xander just ignored him and tried to keep his eyes locked on the passing scenery.
When they pulled up in front of Xander’s father’s house, Angel realized he’d made an ass of himself yet again. He jumped from the car and opened Xander’s door for him, helping him ease out of the low riding car. They walked quietly towards the house, each lost in their own thoughts.
“I’ll come by tomorrow to check on you.”
Xander’s head jerked up and he met Angel’s gaze. “Angel, I don’t think…”
“I’ll be here tomorrow.”
Xander really didn’t have the energy to argue. “Fine.” He opened the door and slipped inside, heading immediately for his room and a hot shower that would hopefully ease the aches that were growing in his body. With luck, he’d be asleep before Andrew and his father came home.
