Part 3:

Angel spent the next day searching for contractors to do the needed work on the house.  He wanted to keep as much of the work local as he could and tried to find specialists in restoration.  It went surprisingly well and he had appointments with several firms over the next few days.

He called L.A. and talked to Wes, Fred, and Spike, reassuring them all that he was okay.  Angel didn’t really think they believed him but he really was doing better than expected.  Except for the whole seeing Xander’s ghost thing.  He kept that to himself, agreeing with Xander’s wish for just a little more time.  Even a few minutes a day was better than never seeing him again.

Now he was sitting in front of a fire in the library, sipping a glass of blood and reading one of the books he’d found on the shelves.  There wasn’t much of a selection but it was better than staring into the fire, waiting and hoping for Xander to appear.

Just as he had the thought, he felt Xander’s presence and looked over to see him sitting in the chair opposite him, grinning at Angel.  “Don’t say it.”

Xander laughed.  “What?  I can’t make fun of you now?  Say you’re acting your age all huddled up in front of the fire with a book in hand that’s thicker than my arm?”

Angel smiled and put the book aside.  “Exactly.  No making fun allowed.”

“Not gonna happen.  But you know that.  So what have I missed?”

Angel recounted his day and showed Xander the plans he’d drawn up for the work on the house.  Xander pointed out a few additions that he needed to make and Angel added them to the list.

Then they just sat in front of the fire for a while.  He’d never thought that Xander would be able to sit in silence but he was constantly surprised by him.  Angel ached to hold him again and knew that Xander felt the same way.  They never spoke of it but the desire was there in their eyes for both to see.

Los Angeles

Lindsey McDonald paced, waiting for the latest update.  He was getting irritated at the lack of information and was beyond ready to move forward with his plans.   Angel was out of the way, falling for the ancestral home bit just as Lindsey had known he would.  He was creating a train of dominoes and knew he had to move carefully or risk knocking everything down before he was ready.

His cell phone finally rang and Lindsey answered it after the first ring.  “What have you got?”

“He’s apparently going to renovate just as you suggested.  We’ve got a contractor lined up to meet with him.  Everything is in place.”

“Excellent.  And the other?”

“Everything is well.  There’s a few weird things going on but the doctor says that’s just a side effect of the drugs.  We’re keeping a close eye on the situation.”

“Good.  Keep me updated.  This is our best chance.  I don’t want any mistakes.”

“Understood.”

Lindsey snapped the phone shut and smiled.  Oh this was going to be good.  The dominoes were lining up perfectly.  He just needed to be patient so he could knock them all down.
