Back for more, I see. It doesn’t surprise me. Things are very wild at this point in our tale. Of course, they get wilder. You’ll soon see what I mean. My Master was finally prepared to deal with us, the ones Xander had brought to him. You see, my Master wanted a way to magically remove the chip from his childe’s head, as the soldiers had warned that the chips were designed to cause damage if removed by surgical methods. In reality, the Initiative didn’t want the demons to be able to claw the scrap of metal out of their own heads.

It was smart, but my Master was smarter. He was devious, a planner, and every scheme concocted was one he’d mastered years before. True, he’d never implanted something in a skull for control, but he was a Master and knew how to bring anyone to heel. The Initiative would soon learn just what a ruthless enemy they had made.

Angelus looked around the bus with a sigh of satisfaction. Things were coming along nicely. His pets, all of them, were quickly becoming more precious to him than anything else. His thirst for vengeance, though, was strong.

He approached the boys Xander brought to him. “What are your names?” Warren, as usual, tried to answer for the group. Unfortunately for him, he was still gagged. Angelus cackled at the muffled reply he attempted. Angelus turned his eyes to the lone boy without a gag. “You. Answer me.”

“Jonathan, Master, Sir. That is Andrew. On the end is Warren.”

“Very good, Jonathan. Tell me, which of the three of you would be best served to remove a pesky chip from my childe’s head?”

Jonathan looked up at him, brown eyes puzzled. “Well, Master, Sir, I think we would all be required for such a delicate process.”

Angelus growled and Jonathan shriveled back into his seat. “Very well.” He unfastened the gags from Andrew and Warren. “Speak only to answer my questions. My guards have informed me of your tendency to babble. It annoys me.”

They all remained silent. Angelus smiled.  “Now, tell me how we would go about removing the chip.”

Warren spoke. “Well, we’d need to disable it first and then we could just do a little spell and poof, it would be out. Easy.”

Andrew and Jonathan both looked at him in disbelief. Angelus noticed their looks. “What?”

Andrew looked hesitantly at Warren. “But, Warren, if we tried to disable it, what would it do?”

Warren shrugged. “Not my problem. He didn’t ask that. He just said to get it out.”

“But Warren, he wouldn’t want him hurt.” Jonathan thought that was obvious.

“Shut up. You’re such a pansy. He’s a vampire. He couldn’t care less.”

Andrew was appalled. “That’s not true! It’s obvious he cares. The blond vampire is important to him.”

“Yeah, Warren. I can’t believe you wouldn’t recognize that.   He’s like family. It’d be like Luke just leaving Han frozen in Jabba’s palace. No way would that ever happen.” Jonathan was pleased that he’d discovered an analogy that Warren couldn’t refute.

“That is a load of crap, Jonathan. It’s not the same at all. Besides, it was Leia who went after Han. Not Luke. Luke only came in when his sister was taken prisoner.” Warren arched a brow, daring Jonathan to deny his rebuttal.

Andrew totally agreed with Jonathan. “You are so far off it’s not even funny. Luke sent R2D2 and C3PO first. And don’t forget that Lando was there as well. Luke tried to negotiate first. God, Warren. You have no clue.”

Warren struggled against his bonds before realizing that there was growling very near by. Three sets of frightened eyes turned to Angelus.

“Are you finished?”

They all nodded.

“So, am I to understand that the method suggested by this one would bring harm to my childe?”

They all looked around guiltily. Andrew finally nodded. “But sir, um, Master Vampire Sir, we can’t be sure. That’s the dilemma.”

“What do we need to be sure?”

Jonathan perked up. “Well, if you’re going into the Initiative anyway, why not just get the specs on the chip? Then we’ll be able to see how it works and know exactly what we’re dealing with.”

Warren glared at Jonathan and Andrew. “I am the leader of our group. You two need to shut up and let me handle this.”

Angelus moved so quickly that none of them saw him. His hand was around Warren’s throat and squeezing. “I am the leader of this group.” He turned yellowed eyes to Andrew and Jonathan. “Do we need him?”

They both cowered in their chair. Wesley spoke from behind him. “Master?”

Angelus turned, dragging Warren’s neck with him until the human was gasping and straining against the pull.

“Might I suggest we keep him for a while? He might prove useful.”

Angelus didn’t like it but he eased his hold on Warren’s throat. He turned to the Krifgehn standing guard behind them. “Gag him again. I don’t want to hear another word from his mouth.”

The Krifgehn re-bound Warren and stepped back.

Time was quickly approaching for their attack on the Initiative and Angelus knew he needed to stay focused. The humans were annoying him and he wanted nothing more than to snap their so-called leader’s neck, but Wesley was right. He may be useful. When he wasn’t, he would make a perfect first meal for Spike.

Angelus turned to Wesley and they left the bus. Wesley looked sympathetically at Cordelia and Gunn, who were still tied to the posts in the corner of the warehouse but he continued following Angelus as he led them into one of the offices.

“Pet, how are the wards?”

“Strong, Master. Although from what I understand, Miss Rosenburg is a powerful witch who may be able to break through.”

“I want you to ward the bus as well. No one but myself, Spike, and my pets are to be aboard. In case there are problems while we are gone, I want you to be as protected as possible.”

“You aren’t taking me with you, Master?”

Angelus pulled Wesley to him. “Not this time, pet. I need someone I trust to stay here. You have the most level head. I know you will keep our family safe until my return.”

Wesley was amazed at the trust Angelus was placing in him. “I’ll keep them safe, Master. Might I suggest allowing the driver to remain on the bus as well? If nothing else, he could possibly just drive us right out if there is a fight.”

“Very well, pet. He knows our final destination. I will instruct him to take you straight there if there is a struggle.”

“Thank you, Master.”

Angelus kissed Wesley briefly before he left the office. “Spike, Riley, Graham, Xander, follow me. And bring one of those boys with us. We might need one of them.”

Dusk arrived and they headed out, following Angelus to the warehouse where the demons were meeting them. Angelus was surprised by the turnout. He hadn’t expected such a large response. They all looked to be well armed and he recognized many of the species present.

Angelus divided them up, using the information provided by Riley and Graham to make sure all of the entrances to the facility were covered. His pets were all staying with him, well guarded by a dozen Krifgehn demons.

They reached the cave entrance within an hour and Riley entered the codes needed to bypass the system. Throughout the area, demons were doing the same, all gaining entrance at the same time.

“Graham, Xander, go find the wolf. Spike, take whatever his name is and go get the information on the chip. Riley, you’re with me.”

The Krifgehn demons split up, following their charges. Graham led Xander through a maze of hallways until they reached the holding area. The area was deep in the Initiative and normally well guarded. Graham could hear fighting from around them and knew that the guards were trying to keep the demons out.

Xander looked in each cell before rushing to the next. By the time he reached the end of the row, he was nearly hysterical. “He’s not here, Graham. Where the hell is he?”

Graham was afraid to answer and Xander recognized the look in his eyes. “We have to find him. Please, Graham.”

The soldier hesitated for only a moment before running back the way they came. The Krifgehns were guarding the entrance to the holding area and the sound of gunfire was intensifying. “We have to go through all that to get to him.” He glared at all the Krifgehn demons. “Cover us.”

They all brandished their weapons and surrounded the humans as they made their way towards the fight. When they made it to the large doors at the end of the hall, Graham pulled Xander to him. “You stay right beside me, do you understand? Do not run off, no matter what.”

Xander nodded and grabbed a fistful of Graham’s shirt. Graham burst through the doors and ran to the first fallen soldier he saw. Scooping up the weapon by the body, he continued on, barely breaking pace. The Krifgehns helped clear the way, taking out demons and soldiers alike that were in their path.

By the time they had crossed the room, all of their guards were engaged in battle. Graham took a deep breath and pushed his way into the medical wing. A few quick shots took out the soldiers guarding the second set of doors and Graham led Xander through them.

The sight they met turned both Graham and Xander’s stomachs. Demons were scattered throughout the room, in various stages of Xander didn’t know what. Experiments, dissection, torture were all words he could have used but in reality it was horrifying. Xander eyed them all carefully, trying to keep himself from vomiting, while looking for a familiar red head.

He didn’t see Oz until they reached the end of the room. Oz was in bad shape but not nearly as bad as the other’s they had passed. They had locked him in a holding cell and Oz was currently in his wolf form, snarling and snapping at the door. Xander wasn’t sure they were capable of handling him when the unthinkable happened. The power went out and the door to the holding cell slid open.

Oz immediately pounced and had his jaw around Xander’s throat. Graham tried to fight the wolf off but was afraid of hurting Xander further. Oz pulled away and snarled at Graham who backed up quickly and raised his weapon.

“Graham, no.”

Xander’s voice trembled in fear and Graham realized that he wasn’t hurt. The wolf hadn’t bit him, but was simply holding him by the throat, forcing Xander’s submission. Xander arched his head more to the side, baring his neck and Oz calmed, his dominance established.

Graham tried to take a step forward and Oz growled.

“Graham, find Angel. Hurry.”

The soldier didn’t want to leave Xander but knew that if Xander said they needed Angel, then that’s what he’d have to do. He ran from the medical wing as quickly as he could, ignoring the pain-filled screams from behind him. He hoped that Xander knew what he was doing.

Well, friends, I hate to leave you at such a critical moment, but tonight is a big night for me and the other pets. When we next meet, the battle in the Initiative continues. Many fell that night at my Master’s command. I’ll never forget the sound of his roars as he slaughtered anyone in his path.

As for me, I’ll tell you that I was kept safe by my Master’s childe. I cannot help but adore him for the sacrifices he made for me that night.  Spike holds a special place in my heart.

Adieu.

XO
Jonathan
