Writing Meme

Saw this on [personal profile] nyghtpet's journal and decided to answer it for me.

Ideas. Where the hell do they come from?
Hmmm.  A variety of places.  I've gotten several ideas from dreams (New Order, Spike's Gift).  Sometimes I'll hear or see something and think of a character (the World of Woo series was a commercial that screamed Xander to me).  Rewatching episodes of the show often inspires me.  Sometimes they just jump out of my head from no where.

Wild horse-bunnies. When a story just gets pulled right out of you. Do you get them?
All the time.  I have a list of what I'm working on and it just gets thrown out the window when the bunny monster attacks.

Writer's block. Have you been scourged?
Yes.  It's a terrible feeling.  Especially when you know what you want to happen but just can't seem to get the story to move forward.  I keep working on it though, even if it's one terrible paragraph at a time so that I don't totally abandon the story.  Eventually things start flowing again and I can jump back on board.

Clean up duty. Do you like editing?
Hate it with a purple passion.  I have two amazing beta's that keep me on track though.  *hugs to CC and MT for all their hard work and putting up with me*

The ending. Is it hard for you to find the ending?
Depends on the story.  Usually I have an ending in mind, like with New Order and Breaking Through.  Other times I just go with the flow and see where the muse takes me (Resurrection).  Then there's the stories that never end...like Passions!  lol

The title. Where do you get yours? Do you have yours when you start the story?
Sometimes I have it at the beginning.  I'll be inspired by a word or phrase and incorporate it into the title.  Otherwise its brain storming, often on IM with my pals and something jumps out at me.  Other times I say "Purps, I need a title" and she helps me out.  It's very handy having clever friends.

Plot. If you plot out your stories first, raise your hand.
Long fics, hand is raised.  I plot my long fics to death.  I have an entire notebook for Passions that contains notes, a short outline for the current season and a detailed outline for individual episodes.  Short fics (ficlets and pwp's) I just write.  That being said, sometimes even when I have a plot the story takes me in a different direction once I start writing.  I can plot but I also have to let the muse work.

POV. How do you choose your POV for a scene? For a story?
I don't choose.  The POV chooses me.  I just start writing and see what happens.

Challenges. Do you like them? Do they inspire you?
I love challenges.  I'll try just about anything because it stretches me as a writer.  Sometimes with my challenges, you can tell I was being really stretched *read 'they suck'* but I'll give it a whirl and post it anyway cause that's the kind of masochist I am.  Some of my best work has come from challenges though so I will keep on doing them!!

Sex. Do you like writing sex?
That would be a yes.  Especially cause the comments I get after a sex scene are usually so fun and inspiring.  lol...nothing like a bunch of squees, pants , guh's and HOT's to make you want to keep on writing.

Hi! I was hoping I could pick your brain. :)

I would love to be able to find a central location that has all of the abbreviations written out, i.e., PWP/RPS/AU, etc. For some of us newbies, it's hard to remember which is which and the rules that govern each. I'm working on a ficlet and want to make sure that I'm, at the very least, following the rules (just thinking about posting is making me break out into a cold sweat).

Where did you go to get this info when you first started out?

Pick away! Funnily enough, I still consider myself to be a newbie. I've only been writing/reading fanfic since Sept. So we're in the same boat.

The list of abbreviations that I use is found at adultfanfiction.net at the following link:

Another great resource is in the LJ community [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] In particular, this post:

http://community.livejournal.com/bloodclaim/2583.html

If you aren't a member there, it's worth joining just for the resource list but I happen to love that community!

But the main place I got my informaiton? I asked, just like you just did! Nearly every writer here will answer your questions. They're so welcoming. I just asked a friend today what something meant that I didn't know!

I hope this helps and if you need anything else, please feel free to ask. I'm happy to help!

Good luck!
