Xander stared at Spike, gasping for breath both from the kiss and the shock of Spike’s revelation. He stared blinking at him for several moments before taking a step back. “But you were calling out for Willow, Spike. I know what I heard.”

Angel and Cordelia were settled on their living room couch with the still shell-shocked Xander between them. Cordelia was holding his hand and petting his arm but nothing seemed to break through. Angel finally pulled Xander over so that he was leaning against his chest.
He looked over at Cordelia, begging her with his eyes to do something, anything, to help. With a sigh, Cordelia closed her eyes and laid her hands on Xander. Moments later, he was peacefully asleep.
“He needs to rest, Angel. Let’s take him upstairs and get him settled.” Angel agreed and lifted Xander into his arms. Before they could leave though, the door opened and in walked Giles.
Giles stared at them both before turning his eyes to the sleeping man in Angel’s arms. “What the hell is going on here?”

Spike let Miguel and Ethan guide him into the house. He was completely numb. The look in Xander’s eyes was something he couldn’t believe he had put there. Ethan guided Spike upstairs and turned to leave.
“Ethan?”
Ethan looked over his shoulder at Spike and waited for him to continue. “I really love him.”
“I know, Spike.” Ethan continued out the door and Miguel followed him out of the house.

Gwen stared at the papers in her hand. This couldn’t be happening. No one was supposed to find out about this. The timing couldn’t be worse. The gala was only weeks away and Gwen was certain that Ethan would propose.
She didn’t know what to do. Her life was so close to being exactly what she wanted. She couldn’t loose it all now. Gwen’s gaze drifted back to the evidence she’d so carefully hidden and knew there was only one thing to do.
She picked up her phone and dialed the number she still knew by heart. “Riley? I need your help.”

Theresa slipped the phone in the guest room back into the cradle. Riley. She wondered who Riley was and how she would be able to use him to get rid of Gwen once and for all. She looked around the room before picking up the pillow that Ethan used the other night when she saw him in here with Xander. It still smelled like him.
She’d seen Ethan run out of the house earlier as she sat out front watching. She’d noticed how he didn’t lock the door behind him. It was strange because Ethan was always very careful to lock up.
But the temptation was too much for her to resist. She’d had to come in and get a look around where Ethan lived. Of course, now she had to figure out a way to get out of here without Gwen noticing.

Giles paced in the living room, waiting for Angel to get back from carrying the still-sleeping Xander upstairs. The more he thought about Angel bringing a stranger into their home with everything going on the more furious he became.
Cordelia was watching him move across the room. As tempting as it was to intervene on Angel’s behalf, she knew that there was going to be no getting out of this. They had both broken the rules tonight. And Angel would suffer the consequences.
Giles paused in his pacing to glare at her then turned his glare back to the door when Angel entered. He went to the couch and sat next to Cordelia. She reached over and grabbed his hand. They both knew what was coming.
“I cannot believe this. I leave for just a few hours and you both flagrantly break the few rules I have established. I believe you both owe me an explanation.” Giles looked over at them, waiting.
Angel squeezed Cordelia’s hand gently before standing. “I take full responsibility for what happened today. I was not where I was supposed to be and as a result things got out of hand. I apol…”
Giles interrupted Angel’s explanation. “I assumed as much. Cordelia, please go upstairs. I need to speak with Angel privately for a moment.”
“Dad, wait. I had a vision.” Giles moved quickly to her side. “It was that Tabitha woman again. She’s working on something, something big. I couldn’t get a clear sight of what it was. But she’s coming after us.”
Giles slammed his fist into the coffee table. He was going to have to do something about Tabitha. That meddling witch was not going to stop him, no matter what it took.
“Cordy, go on upstairs. Angel and I will take care of it.”
Cordelia started to argue but a quick look from Angel kept her quiet. She left the room and closed the door behind her. Although it was tempting to stay behind and listen, she knew her father would catch her. He always did.
Giles waited until he heard Cordelia’s footsteps on the stairs before turning on Angel. “What you did today is unforgivable. You put my daughter’s life at risk. In fact, our entire plan is now at risk. And on top of that, you bring a stranger into our home? Here with Cordelia?”
“Sir, I can only apologize again. There is no excuse for my actions.”
Giles stepped close to Angel and their faces were mere inches apart. “You’re right, Angel. There is no excuse for your actions.” Giles reached up and pressed his hand to Angel’s cheek. Angel dropped to his knees, pain searing through his body.
“You seem to have forgotten what you are here for, Angel. Did you think I put so much effort into saving you to simply let you run around and do whatever you wanted? You put my daughter at risk. You will never do that again. Are we clear?”
Angel nodded and Giles removed his hand and the magic ceased to flow. Angel dropped to the floor, gasping as the shocks of pain continued to rush through his body. Giles sat in his chair, waiting for Angel to recover.
When he finally rose, Giles let him retake a seat on the couch before he continued. “I find myself questioning your loyalty, Angel. But before we get into that, let’s talk about that man you carried upstairs earlier. Xander, wasn’t it? He is a distraction. I will not allow you to be distracted.”
“Sir, he won’t be a distraction.”
Giles raised his eyes and Angel shivered at the strange glow he saw in them. “You’re right, Angel. He won’t be. Do I need to think of a way to convince you?”
“No, sir.”
“Good. Because I’m sure I could find a way to convince your little sleeping friend. And Angel? Don’t let anything like this happen again. You won’t like the consequences.”
“I understand, sir.”
“I knew you would. Now, let’s head downstairs. I think you need a reminder of exactly what happens to those in my service who displease me.”

Theresa waited until Gwen was sleeping before she snuck out the back door. She didn’t have a plan yet for how she was going to use this mystery ‘Riley’, but she would. As soon as she found out exactly who he was. And Theresa knew just who to call for that. She wondered as she drove away exactly how her old friend Doyle was doing these days.

Spike watched as Xander backed away from him, a look of confusion on his face. “Xan, I did have a dream about Willow the other night. But it’s not what you think. I really want to talk to you about this.”
Xander backed away another step. “I’m not sure I can.” Then he turned and walked away. Spike stared after him, cursing dream Spike yet again for his stupidity.
