Part 3:

Spike fumed all that night and most of the next day. Well, in between giving Parker the fuck of his life yet again, that is. He couldn’t believe that Oz was so pissed at him over this. Every time he thought about it, it just made him more and more angry. They’d been friends for over 20 damn years. There was no way his fucking habits were going to come between them now. Oz knew him, knew what he liked and how he liked it. He knew the same about Oz. Or at least he thought he did.

By the time he’d convinced Parker to get the fuck out, Spike was ready to go hunt Oz down and have it out. This was ridiculous. He was not losing his best friend over a fucking lay. It was not going to happen. Even if he had been thinking about that lay repeatedly over the past two days.

He was distracted from his plan by Giles coming into his bedroom and interrupting his pacing.

“Sir?”

“What.”

“There’s a gentleman to see you.”

“Not now, Giles.”

“Sir. I think you should reconsider.”

Giles had never spoken back to him like that so Spike stopped and looked at him. “Who is it?”

“A young man named Alex is downstairs.”

“Well, shit, why didn’t you say so? Send him up.”

Spike looked down at his ragged jeans and t-shirt and debated whether he should change. Yeah, he decided, he should. No, he wouldn’t. Hell. He was acting like a teenage girl. Spike went into the living room and poured himself a drink. He was standing there staring at it when Giles went to answer the door.

“Is, um, Spike here?”

“Your name?”

“Xa, uh, Alex.”

“One moment.” Spike smirked. Giles was so damn formal sometimes. It was really funny. Giles came down the hall and over to Spike. He saw the laugh on Spike’s face, and his own grim façade cracked a little. “Sir, there is a Mr. Alex to see you. Should I send him in?”

“Alex, huh? Yeah, send him in.”

They shared another smirk before Giles steeled his features again and went back down the hall. “This way, please.”

Alex looked confused when he followed Giles into the room. Spike nodded to Giles who left the room and turned to Alex. “Surprised to see you so soon, pet. What brings you here?”

“Oh, well, I lost my bracelet and was hoping I could take a look around and see if maybe I’d left it here?”

“Lost a bracelet, huh? Well alright, take a look around if you like. Giles?”

“Yes, Mr. Spencer?”

“You see a bracelet around here anywhere? Alex here thinks he lost one.”

“No, sir. I haven’t seen a bracelet anywhere.”

Alex frowned and looked around the room. He blushed a little as he looked under the couch. Spike admired the view. He’d like to have him bent over the couch again. Alex stood again and leaned over the couch. Spike stepped closer. The position was just too tempting to resist.

“Oh, thank God.” Spike paused as Alex stood again with a silver bracelet clutched in his hand. He really had lost a bracelet. It wasn’t just a ploy.

“Glad you found it, pet.”

“Yeah, me too. It’s pretty special.”

Spike felt a surge of jealously and stepped closer. He wanted a look at this special bracelet. “Here, pet. Let me put it on for you.” Alex smiled and held out his hand with the bracelet. Spike let his fingers graze Alex’s palm before he plucked up the bracelet.

It was just some cheap ID bracelet. Not even real silver. And it said Xander. Spike looked at the bracelet, and then back at Alex. “Who’s Xander?”

Alex blushed again. “Well, that’s um, kind of me.”

“Kind of you? How exactly does that work?”

“Well, um, my name is Alexander. Everyone calls me Xander. Well, everyone else.”

Spike scowled. No wonder Oz had thought he was an idiot. The boy had told him the wrong name. “So why did you tell me your name was Alex?” Spike wrapped the bracelet around Xander’s wrist and fastened it, but he didn’t let go of his arm.

“I didn’t want you to know my real name.”

“Why the hell not?”

“Look, you seem really nice and all. And the other night was really nice, too. But this isn’t my scene, and I just want to take my bracelet and go home now. But it was really nice meeting you. And um, thanks for, um, yeah. Just thanks. Bye, now.

Nice? It was NICE?  Oh no he did not just say that the fuck Spike had been daydreaming about for two days was just NICE. That was not a NICE fuck. That was a fucking mind blowing fuck.

“Nice?”

Xander paused. “Yeah, nice.”

“NICE?”

“Um, really nice?”

“That was not nice, pet. I am not NICE, pet.”

“Okay. Well, okay. It was…never mind. I’ve got to go.”

Xander spun for the door, but Spike was faster. “Oh no, you don’t. You aren’t going anywhere yet.” Xander turned to argue, but wasn’t expecting Spike to be as close as he was. He gasped, and Spike used the opportunity to plaster his mouth to Xander’s, delving his tongue in to immediately tangle and tease. He’d show him NICE.

It took Xander a minute to respond, but once he started, it was hot and deep and just as incredible as Spike remembered. There was something about Xander’s lips. They were full and soft, but they seemed to dominate his. It aroused Spike more than he could believe.

He broke away after a moment and waited for Xander’s eyes to drift open. “How was that, pet? Nice?”

Xander grinned that crooked smile that Spike loved. “Yeah. It was nice. Really nice.” The way he said it suddenly made Spike not mind their experience being labeled as just nice. If it was nice said in that gasping, sexy tone, then yeah, Spike would agree that it was nice.

“Yeah, pet. It really was.” Spike leaned in again, and this time the kiss was slow and sensual. Spike explored Xander’s mouth with his own and tasted him, teased him, even tormented him a little. Xander finally pulled away, gasping.

“You can really, really kiss.”

“Can really do lots of things, pet.”

Spike leaned in again, but Xander pulled away. “I remember. But I wasn’t kidding when I said that really wasn’t my thing.   I mean, the other night? I’d never done that before, and to be honest with you, I don’t want to do it again.”

“What do you mean, you don’t want to do it again?” Spike felt a pout coming on, and he didn’t believe in pouting. But he had never been turned down before, especially for a round two. This was unprecedented.

“Spike, you’re really ni…I mean, sexy and all that. But I’m not interested in a fling. And I know that’s your thing and all, and that’s cool. So, why don’t we just say good-bye here and save me the heartache.”

He wanted to just grab Xander and kiss him again. He wanted to just drop to his knees and convince him the way he had the other night. But Spike could tell that Xander was serious. Alex had been willing to have a one nighter with him. Xander was not. Now that he knew the secret of Xander’s name, he saw that he really had been playing a role the other night.

The problem was that Spike still wanted him. Desperately. The fact that Xander turned him down only made him want it more. He reached a hand up and stroked it through Xander’s hair. It was so soft, the curls wrapping around his fingers and holding them. “I don’t want to cause you heartache, pet.”

Xander leaned his head into Spike’s touch. “I don’t think you’d mean to Spike. But I’m not your style. I want something different. It’s okay, really. I don’t expect you to change for me, but don’t expect me to change for you either, okay?”

Spike nodded and pulled his hand slowly away. He put his smirk back on deliberately and could see Xander relax at the familiarity of the persona. “Well, guess that’s settled. Want to go grab a bite?”

Xander looked at him like he had two heads. “Uh, sure. I guess.”

“Good. Let’s get going. Giles! I’m out! Catch you later.” He grabbed his leather coat from the hall closet and was out the door. Xander followed him a moment later.   The elevator took forever, as usual. They stared at each other for a moment before turning and facing the doors.

“So, where are we going?”

Spike smirked again. He was kind of liking this. “You’ll see, Xander.”

Riley was standing in the lobby waiting on them. Giles had obviously called down and told his guards he was leaving. Damn. He’d forgotten about them. Couldn’t be helped though. Xander would just have to learn to ignore them like he did.

They stepped out into the cold and hunched into their jackets. Spike took a deep breath before reaching into his pocket and dragging out his smokes. He lit up while heading down the block at a fast pace. Damn windy city.

After going a few blocks, Spike turned and headed up an alley. Xander followed and was surprised to see that Spike had led them to a little Chinese restaurant. Not one of the fancy ones like he would expect. This one looked cozy, like a small town place where you knew the food would be good because it was family run.

The proprietors obviously knew Spike well. A tiny Chinese woman came from the back and gave Spike a hug. “Spike Spencer, you are on my naughty list. Look at you. Do you even eat?”

“Mama Chen! I eat, I eat! I promise! Mama, this is my friend Xander. We need to feed him something good.”

She turned her eyes and looked Xander up and down. He squirmed a bit under the inspection and Spike laughed. Then she turned back to Spike and scowled. “You need to make sure he eats, too. Bring him back to me. You boys with your dancing and drinking and galavanting all hours of the night. Just like your Pop, you are.”

“You know it, Mama.”

“Oh, go on with you. Sit, I’ll bring you something good. And you’ll eat it and not complain, you hear me?”

Spike laughed and nodded. He led Xander to a table in the back. Moments later Mama Chen reappeared with bowls of soup and hot tea. She disappeared again, mumbling under her breath about boys who didn’t eat.

Xander was watching the byplay between them and smiling. He hadn’t expected this from Spike. It was nice. He sipped his soup and then gulped it down. It was incredible. Before he knew it the bowl was empty and he was glancing at it sheepishly. He was hungrier than he thought.

His thoughts drifted to the man sitting across the table from him. Spike seemed to accept his assertion that nothing more would happen between them, so Xander wasn’t quite sure what they were doing here. He wondered if it was just a ploy and if Spike really hadn’t accepted his decision.

Spike was just sipping his own soup though and looked to be enjoying every spoonful with relish. It didn’t surprise him; Spike seemed to enjoy everything with relish. He was full of life and definitely seemed to live as he pleased. Xander thought it must be nice to live like that, without the threats and worry that were constants in his life.

Mama Chen returned with heaping plates of food and Xander dug in, much to her delight. Spike gave her a funny look, and she sighed and headed back into the kitchen, only to return moments later with a heaping plate of something that made Spike smile wider than Xander had ever seen. It appeared to be some type of pastry thing. It smelled delicious.

“Ever had a Crab Rangoon, Xander?”

Xander shook his head. He didn’t get the extras. Fancy side dishes with exotic names, and containing expensive stuff like crab, were not exactly in his price range. Fried rice or some sort of lo mein were at the top of his Chinese food budget.

“Oh man, are you missing out. Now, I don’t recommend trying them just anywhere. There’s an art to making them, see? Mama Chen makes the best, but gripes 'cause I’d just eat a plate of them before anything else.” He lifted a crispy corner and held it out to Xander. “Give it a try. It’s just a little crab and cream cheese with Mama’s special seasonings.”

Spike broke his open and dunked it into the provided sauce. Xander followed suit. They both bit in at the same time, and Xander groaned as the mix of flavors hit his tongue. Spike was right. They were wonderful.

“Told ya so.” Spike chuckled when Xander dunked his other half in and devoured it quickly. It seemed to lighten the mood, and Xander no longer found himself wondering about Spike’s intentions. Either way, he was having an incredible meal and was more relaxed than he’d been in weeks.

Xander tried everything, surprised to find that even the dishes that were mostly vegetables had such wonderful flavor that he didn’t mind them. He was kind of known for his lack of eating vegetables, preferring more of a meat and potatoes approach to food. Well, as long as the meat and potatoes were followed by something chocolaty.

Mama Chen seemed pleased by the amount of food they’d packed away, and Xander wondered just how long he was going to have to work out to keep from gaining weight after such an incredible meal. It normally wasn’t an issue, since he didn’t have time to eat much, and what he did eat was burned off by all the running around he did during the day, and now by the dancing at night.

This meal would be remembered for a while though, both by his mind and by his body. Xander could almost feel the love handles forming and laughed to himself.  He caught Spike watching him when he laughed and looked up at him. “Just wondering how long I’m going to have to work out to keep all this from staying with me.”

Spike smiled and shook his head. “I doubt you’ll have a problem. It’s why I don’t come here all the time, as much as Mama Chen would like me to. Can’t have anything interfering with the abs of steel, now can I?”

Xander laughed again, fully remembering those abs of steel and the pride with which Spike displayed them. His shirts were always tight, showing off his body, and he often slipped his shirt up while at the club, letting everyone see just what he was hiding under the material.

They left the restaurant still in good spirits, and by the time they’d made it through the cold night air back to Spike’s building, Xander was shivering. Spike looked around, wondering where Xander had parked before giving in and asking him.

Xander blushed. “Oh, well, I just walked and took a bus. It’s no big deal. This was fun, though. Thanks for dinner. See you at the club?”

Spike frowned. “You walked? You bloody well walked? Now that just won’t do.” He turned to Riley, still shadowing behind them. “Ri, give Xander here a ride home, would ya?”

Riley nodded and went around the building to the parking garage. Xander was shaking his head. “Spike, no. Really, I don’t mind walking.”

“You’re not walking, Xan. Don’t even think it. Now, I’m heading on in and you just let Riley take you home, yeah?”

Realizing it would do him no good to argue, Xander conceded. “Thanks, Spike.”

“Yep.” The car pulled up and Spike opened the door for Xander, who climbed into the back seat with a sigh. It really was nice to not have to worry about walking all the way back this late.

“Night, Spike.”

“Night.”

Riley pulled the car away and Spike went into the building with a frown. He really was getting soft. But damn if Xander didn’t bring that out in him. Shivering and all helpless–like, but with a spine of steel. It was a heady combination. There was something there between them. He could feel it. He just wondered how long it would take for Xander to realize it.
